Install Almanak

Almanak is not a file you download. You open almanak.co.za and add it to your home screen. There is no 40 MB download, and it works without signal.

Android

  1. Open almanak.co.za in Chrome.
  2. Tap the three dots at the top right.
  3. Tap “Install app” or “Add to home screen”.
  4. Almanak appears with your other apps.

iPhone

It has to be Safari. Chrome on an iPhone cannot do it.

  1. Open almanak.co.za in Safari.
  2. Tap the share button: the square with the arrow pointing up.
  3. Scroll down and tap “Add to Home Screen”, then “Add”.
  4. Open Almanak from your home screen, not from Safari.

Notifications

Almanak only asks whether it may send you notifications after you have installed it. On an iPhone, notifications work only once Almanak is on the home screen.

Notifications only say that something is new. Your child's name or whereabouts never appear on your lock screen, because anyone at the table can read it.

Signing in

There is no password. You get a code by email, and after that you open Almanak with your fingerprint or face. You can see which devices are signed in, and cut any of them off.
